This weekend will be an ideal opportunity for those who live in or can travel to the Huntsville area to learn marbling from Pat K. Thomas, instructor with thirty years of marbling experience. The weekend will begin Friday evening mixing size, paints, alum & preparing a couple pieces of fabric to marble. Saturday, learning historic marbling patterns, variations & even some contemporary adaptations will be scheduled. Saturday evening will provide time for additional marbling. Sunday, will round out the workshop with more paper marbling, fabric marbling, a bonus 3D piece & ideas for what to create with this great stack of marbled papers!

Float colors on thickened water, create beautiful patterns using ancient techniques and print your own designs--- first on paper, and then expand techniques to cotton & silk fabric. By the end of the week you will have made your own tools, marbled stacks of paper & fabric and used your papers for a variety of projects. This class is useful for bookbinders, quilters, collage artists and more--- All levels welcome!
Marbling Alternative Surfaces

This extended weekend workshop will focus on printing surfaces for marbling that are not the usual: leather, specialty papers such as YUPO, Kraft.Tex, Texoprint, 3D wood & bisque, and rigid paper mache’ forms. Anyone interested in color & pattern will be able to marble pieces to use in mixed, media, bookbinding, collage. Wood-turners will have the opportunity to marble their pieces in 3D tanks.

This fast-paced class will cover a variety of marbling techniques on paper. Friday evening will begin with suminagashi--- the earliest marbling done on water with inks. Saturday will cover the basic historic patterns & expand into contemporary interpretations. The beautiful Turkish floral ebru will also be explored.
